Jesse Donn set for SuperSport exit

SuperSport United midfielder Jesse Donn looks set for an exit at the Tshwane side with interest from another DStv Premiership side.

Donn has struggled for game time under Gavin Hunt in the just-ended season. He only made two starts in the 2022/23 season, coming from the bench 10 times in the DStv Premiership.

The 24-year-old got his third start in the MTN8 Cup and has had to spend much of the season on the sidelines.

With Orlando Pirates loanee Siphesihle Ndlovu exceptional in that central defensive midfield position, Donn found the going tough.

FARPost can reveal that there have been conversations between the player and the club regarding his future.

“It’s been a bit difficult for him this season, and he’s obviously concerned about the lack of game time. He could leave before the end of the transfer window on a permanent transfer,” a SuperSport source said.

Stellenbosch FC are frontrunners for his signature, having already expressed interest in having him. According to the source, the Winelands outfit wants to buy the talented midfielder.

SuperSport are pushing to keep Ndlovu and Magerman, but that will depend on their parent clubs.

CAME THROUGH THE RANKS

Donn came through the youth ranks of SuperSport after being scouted by the club’s Talent Identification team during Ubuntu Cape Town’s Nedbank Cup run in 2018.

His first professional contract was with Cape Town outfit Ubuntu who were playing in the second tier. He spent two seasons there before moving to Matsatsantsa in 2019.

His debut for the Tshwane giants came in 2020 in a 2-0 victory over Polokwane City. On the day, Donn replaced then-captain Dean Furman, who got injured during a pre-match training session.

Under Kaitano Tembo, in the 2021/22 season, he made 27 appearances. 21 of those appearances were starts. However, his fortunes have dwindled under Hunt, and a return to Cape Town is imminent.
