Sandile Zungu on Hanamub’s future amidst Pirates links

AmaZulu FC president Sandile Zungu has spoken about Riaan Hanamub’s future amidst links with Orlando Pirates.

Hanamub had a fine season in Usuthu colours and has been linked to several clubs, including Orlando Pirates.

The Namibia international made 27 starts in the DStv Premiership in his first season at the Durban side. A further five starts came in cup competitions.

Hanamub joined AmaZulu ahead of the 2022/23 season from Chippa United.

Riaan Hanamub stood out for the KZN outfit

In a season Zungu describes as “terrible”, Hanamub stood out for the KZN outfit. The talented left-back provided three assists in the league.

The 28-year-old has been the subject of speculation thanks to his ingenuity.

And now, Zungu has commented on his future amidst the rumoured interest. Responding to a question on whether he would listen to interest from potential suitors, he immediately said: “Zero chance.”

“He insists even if there are offers. He will not listen to them as the player is “firmly in our plans”.
“He’s not going anywhere. There have not been any offers, and I won’t listen to any offers. He’s done well for the team and is firmly in our plans,” Zungu told FARPost.

“Noone has ever approached me. Pirates have never approached us about Hanamub.”
Meanwhile, Zungu earlier announced that the club had cut ties with 11 players.

This comes after several other changes to the technical team, which saw Ayanda Dlamini and Romain Folz.
While Zungu confirmed the departure of Lehlohonolo Majoro, he refused to name the other players leaving.

However, according to sources, Veli Mothwa, Thabo Qalinge, Mxolisi Kunene, Hendrick Ekstein and Keagan Buchanan are among some of the players leaving.

“There are 11 players that have been let go. They have been formally informed in their presence through their agents that we have chosen not to renew their contracts or we have chosen not to exercise the option we had.”
