Motsepe Foundation club confirm sale of status
Motsepe Foundation Championship club has confirmed the sale of its status following the end of the 2022/23 season.
FARPost can reveal that the sale of All Stars’ status to Black Leopards has been finalised, the club’s General Manager Zukiswa Simelukane has confirmed.
All Stars relocated from Cape Town to Johannesburg just before the start of the recently-ended campaign. The club also went as far as changing its name from Cape Town All Stars to All Stars FC.
The news about the sale of Umlilo emerged in April with the club struggling financially. The reports suggested that players were not paid their salaries for April.
Meanwhile, this publication has also gathered that players have not been paid their May salaries and are most likely to endure the same fate in June.
MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE CONFIRM STATUS SALE TO BLACK LEOPARDS
“The sale of the status of our club to Black Leopards is final,” Simelukane confirmed to FARPost.
“Most of our players only signed one-year contracts; only a handful had options. So in the NFD for season 2023/24 there’s no more All Stars.”
It is also understood that Black Leopards paid between R10 million and R12 million for the purchase of the status.
“It’s just disappointing that things ended this bad because we had such a strong team, Morgan Mammila and Coach Themba did a really good job to assemble such a strong team that actually competed for the first season, considering the team’s relocation,” continued Simelukane.
“Honestly if South African Football was just based on the best-performing team, not the other factors that we faced during the course of the league, All Stars could have finished the league in the top 3, with the players we had and the technical team we had.”
