Here’s when Blom could rub shoulders with Messi

Bafana Bafana midfielder Njabulo Blom is set to rub shoulders with Lionel Messi in the MLS after the Argentine’s big move to the USA.

Messi opted against a return to his former side Barcelona. He decided to join Inter Miami in the MLS where he is is set to cross paths with Blom.

The iconic Messi also turned down a big money move to Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia. In the middle-east he would have resumed his rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo.

IT WILL BE LIONEL MESSI V NJABULO BLOM IN THE MLS

Ronaldo currently runs out for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. This is the same league South African coach Pitso Mosimane could be leading his newly promoted side Al Ahli.

The 35-year-old Messi, though, snubbed the big money. He opted for a move to the MLS as he was not comfortable moving his family to Saudi Arabia.

His move to the USA has left some South Africans excited as they anticipate a clash with their very own Blom who runs out for St Louis City in the MLS.

The MLS is made of two separate conferences – the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference. Each team plays two rounds of matches.

They also play a selection of teams from the other conference. This means that Blom’s St Louis City have the opportunity to face Messi’s Inter Miami, despite being in a different conference.

Blom’s St Louis are currently top of the  Western Conference after a solid start to life in the MLS. Meanwhile Messi’s Inter Miami are bottom of the Eastern Conference.

WHEN WILL MESSI FACE BLOM?

Blom and Messi could rub shoulders as early as the 16th of July when St Louis host Inter Miami at City Park. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 02:30 am SA time.

Blom, who has been dubbed the “Stopper” by the St Louis supporters thanks to his tough tackling style in midfield, will be expected to stop Messi.

The nippy Argentine should expect the tough as nails Blom to be snapping on his heels for the entire time they are both on the feild.

Blom has recently regained his mojo. This is after a tough start to life in the MLS thanks to injuries and illness which hampered his progress.
