Stan Matthews on SuperSport’s pursuit of Mosa Lebusa

SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews has responded to the reports about his side’s pursuit of Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mosa Lebusa.

Lebusa has struggled to secure a starting berth at Bafana Ba Style in the past two seasons. He only started nine of over 40 games that Sundowns played in all competitions in the just-ended campaign.

In total, he featured in 17 games, scoring one goal for the Tshwane giants during the Nedbank Cup Last 32 against Richards Bay FC.

Matthews admitted they would like to land the former Ajax Cape Town captain’s signature even though there’s no “indication” whether he’ll be made available in the market by Downs.

The Spartans CEO added that they are also uncertain whether they’d be able to meet Lebusa’s “massive package”.

“Mosa Lebusa, I haven’t had an indication from Sundowns that he’s available,” Matthews told FARPost

“Obviously he’s a player we would have interest in but realistically he’s on a massive package. And I’m not sure if we’re going to be able to have him because his package is very large.

“A lovely player, but you have to try and get what you can afford.”

Moreover, Matthews went on to speak about the issue of affordability on the players who come from the big three, Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

“The big problem with players coming across from Sundowns, Chiefs and Pirates, most of us can’t meet their package,” added Matthews.

“It’s like Andile Jali. Who wouldn’t want to take Andile Jali? You know what I mean, I think every team in the PSL would like to sign Andile Jali.

“But how much do you earn? ‘I can’t afford that’. ‘Can I give you half? No, I can’t take half’. Okay, what can you do? But we’re going to try our best.”

SuperSport have also been linked to Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Pathutshedzo Nange who’ll see his contract run out at the end of June.
