Callies issue update on Kwanele Kopo’s future
Motsepe Foundation Championship side Pretoria Callies has issued an update on the future of coach Kwanele Kopo.
Kopo has been strongly linked with a move to DStv Premiership outfit Chippa United to work as an assistant coach to Morgan Mammila. The latter was confirmed as the head coach of the Chilli Boys ahead of the 2023/24 PSL season.
Chippa also confirmed Siyabulela Gwambi as the first assistant, giving a hint that there could be a second assistant coming. It was further reported that the negotiations between Kopo and Chippa took place but collapsed due to disagreements over the contract clauses.
MOSES MALADA ON KWANELE KOPO’S FUTURE
Speaking to FARPost, club boss Moses Malada says he has never been bothered by the reports.
“I don’t know about his negotiations with Chippa [United],” he said.
“But the issue is that [Kwanele] Kopo has never left the team. He is still with the team and will pick up from where he left off last season. The rest of the things that people heard or read were just rumours. I have regular meetings and updates about players with him.”
PRETORIA CALLIES’ LONG-TERM PLANS
Malada says the club has long-term plans with the former SuperSport United development coach. He also added that Kopo is a man who sticks to his word.
“It has never ever crossed my mind [that Kopo will leave] because we had a plan with him that he presented when he joined the team. That plan is not done as yet and knowing him, he is not a man that quits his plan,” he declared.
“So it has never bothered me. Even when I see these things I would speak to him and he assures me that he doesn’t know anything about it himself.
“He is not a person that would betray his words. So it was never even a question for me to worry about.”
