‘It’s a little bit annoying’: Hugo Broos on late arrivals

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has slammed late arrivals in the national camp, insisting that it is “a little bit annoying”.

The Belgian mentor was speaking ahead of Bafana’s last CAF AFCON qualifier against Morocco on Saturday, 17 June 2023.

The showdown will take place at the FNB Stadium with the kick-off scheduled to get underway at 17h00.

Broos’ charges were drawn in Group K of the AFCON qualifiers which became a three-nation group after Zimbabwe was banned from international due to government interference.

SA and Morocco have already booked their tickets to the AFCON 2023 due to be held in Ivory Coast.

Bafana coach, Broos, trimmed his provisional squad to 23 players last Friday.

Four overseas players reported late to the Bafana camp due to commitment to their respective clubs which were in action over the weekend. But all the overseas-based players have now reported for the training camp.

Luke Le Roux who plays for Varbergs BoIS in Sweden and Bongokuhle Hlongwane of Minnesota United in the United States of America arrived on Tuesday afternoon, whereas Al Ahly’s Percy Tau touched down South on Tuesday night.

NJABULO BLOM THE LAST PLAYER TO ARRIVE AT THE CAMP

Meanwhile, Njabulo Blom of St Louis City was the last player to report to camp as he arrived in South Africa on Wednesday morning.

HUGO BROOS ON LATE ARRIVALS

The 71-year-old mentor has stated that the issue of late arrivals in camp is something that cannot be solved.

“This is a problem [late arrivals] but you can’t solve that problem. Njabulo [Blom] spent nearly two days on travel and you can’t change that,” Broos told SAFA’s media department.

“It’s a pity that we are already on Wednesday today and Saturday is the game.

“Today and tomorrow we have tactical training so he’s just on time but you can’t even ask the boy to train the whole training because he just arrived with two days traveling in his body.”

Broos continued: “So, this is the problem here in South Africa when players are coming in from abroad. But it is what it is and you can’t solve that problem. However, it’s a little bit annoying.

The 2023 AFCON tournament will start in January next year.
