Sekhukhune sign highly-rated midfielder from SuperSport United

Sekhukhune United have announced the signing of a highly-rated midfielder from SuperSport United to bolster the squad ahead of the new season.

The acquisition of the midfielder is a clear indication that Sekhukhune are gearing up for next campaign as they are set to take part in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Sekhukhune qualified for the Confed Cup by virtue of being runners-up in the Nedbank Cup against Orlando Pirates.

The 2023 Nedbank Cup finalists started to prepare for what is expected to be a busy campaign for them as they will also take part in the MTN8, Carling Black Label Cup, Nedbank Cup and DStv Premiership.

They have signed Jamie Webber from SuperSport on a two-year deal.

“Strengthening the current squad has been the main priority for Sekhukhune United Football Club in anticipation of an exhausting 2023/24 football season, as well as participating in the CAF Confederation Cup,” said the club in a statement on Wednesday.

Webber, who was linked with Kaizer Chiefs most recently leaves SuperSport after five years. He featured in 119 matches for the Tshwane giants, scoring six goals, while contributing 11 assists. In addition, Webber won the 2019 MTN8 with Matsatsantsa a Pitori.

The 25-year-old formed part of the Bafana Bafana squad for the 2017 COSAFA Cup and also represented SA at junior level.

Webber, who had stints at Vasco Da Gama and Stellenbosch FC in the second-tier league expressed his delight at joining Sekhukhune.

“I am excited to be a member of the ambitious Babina Noko because of the good winning culture demonstrated in the previous season,” he said.

“I am also prepared to work hard for consideration in the starting eleven, bringing new life to the team by assisting the club to continue with the fine form and also looking forward to the new challenge and new environment.”
