Young Africans announce Nabi’s departure

Tanzania giants Young Africans; Yanga have confirmed the departure of their head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

The Tunisian coach, who won his second treble in two seasons, is linked with Kaizer Chiefs.

Nabi heads out the Yanga exit door three days after winning his sixth trophy in two seasons, the Azam Federation Cup as his troops beat Azam FC 1-0 in the final.

In a statement on Wednesday night, Yanga stated that Nabi requested to depart as he seeks “a new challenge” elsewhere.

“Young Africans Sports Club would like to inform the public that it has reached an agreement to part ways with coach Nasreddine Nabi after the coach asked not to sign a new contract,” added the club.

“The leadership of Young Africans thanks coach Nabi for his contribution throughout the period he worked for our team and wishes him all the best in his journey.”

Nabi had been at Yanga for two and a half years and the tactician has clinched the coveted league title twice, the Azam FA Cup twice as well as two Community Shields.

In addition, he led the club to the final of the CAF Confederation Cup where they lost against USM Alger on the away goals rule following a 2-2 draw over two legs.

Following his successful stint at Yanga, Nabi has caught the attention of a number of clubs in Africa and in the Middle East, as previously reported by FARPost.

Chiefs is one of those teams and the club’s management has reportedly held talks with Nabi, who is keen on the Amakhosi project. However, Nabi is keeping his options open as he has several offers on the table.

The Soweto giants recently stretched their trophyless run to eight years under coach Arthur Zwane. The latter penned a three-year deal prior to the start of the just-ended 2022/23 season.

Zwane’s future as coach at Amakhosi is uncertain with Nabi and other candidates earmarked for the coaching position
