Chiefs sporting director reveals why Ngezana left the club

Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr has revealed why Siyabonga Ngezana chose to leave the club ahead of the upcoming PSL season.

Chiefs announced the departure of Ngezana who signed for Romanian Lige 1 outfit Steaua Bucharesti.

Ngezana was promoted to the Chiefs first team during the 2017/18 season, scoring on debut against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 25-year defender was a surprise exit from Amakhosi after forming the integral part of the team under Arthur Zwane.

In the just-ended season, Ngezana featured in 23 matches in all competitions for Chiefs and scored two goals.

Ngezana was competing with Zitha Kwinika, Austin Dube, Njabulo Ngcobo and Edmilson Dove for the Chiefs starting berth.

The Vaal-born centre back is the second departure from Naturena in the off-season after Eric Mathoho went out the exit door.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Motaung Jnr reacted to the departure of Ngezana who spend seven seasons with the club.

“There’s always a tinge of sadness when a player who has risen through the ranks leaves the club,” Motaung said.

“However Siyabonga [Ngezana] has had a good and substantial career at Kaizer Chiefs and he feels this is a right time to take up a new challenge.

“We appreciate his wholehearted commitment to Amakhosi and we wish him well in his exciting adventure to Europe,”

Furthermore, Chiefs is reportedly in advanced stages to finalise a deal for a new coach for the next season.

Nasreddine Nabi who guided Tanzanian side Yanga to a treble is believed to be next coach to take over the hot seat at Chiefs.

Chiefs had underwhelming showing in the 2022/23 season after finishing fifth on the log. They will be looking to end their eight-year trophy drought in the next campaign
