Rulani Mokwena makes bold Peter Shalulile claim
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has made a bold claim on striker Peter Shalulile following the end of of 2022/23 PSL season.
As expected, Shalulile continued tormenting goalkeepers and defenders. He ended the campaign as the DStv Premiership top scorer at par with Cape Town City’s Khanyisa Mayo with 12 goals respectively.
The goal tally was however way too less than what he had in 2021/22 season after netting 23.
Despite, a good scoring form, his season was disturbed by muscular problems. At one time, the Namibian ace was sidelined for three months from October 2022 to January 2023 causing him to miss eight matches in all competitions.
RULANI MOKWENA’S BOLD CLAIM ON PETER SHALULILE
According to Mokwena, Shalulile would have scored around 30 goals if he managed to stay fit and played all matches.
“How many goals do you think Peter [Shalulile] would have scored had he played all games? A lot more, double figures maybe 30,” said Mokwena on Pitchside Podcast.
“I saw someone [on social media] say Peter’s season has recessed because he scored 12 goals. The truth is he’s done incredibly well to score the number of goals that he scored given the number of games that he’s played [21 league matches].
“[He played] under the difficult circumstances having to play Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday whereas some of the players that were scoring goals were fresher. Some of them were playing one game in a week, they had time to prepare for next game.”
PETER SHALULILE TURNS FOCUS TO AFCON QUALIFIERS
The 29-year-old is currently with his Namibian national team. They are preparing for a crucial Group C match in the AFCON qualifiers against Burundi.
The Brave Warriors are on the verge of sealing qualification the 2023 finals in Ivory Coast. They sit at the summit of the log with five points. Heading into the encounter, they need nothing other than maximum points.
So far in the qualifiers, the skipper has scored three goals in three matches.
