What Broos has built with Bafana over two years

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has highlighted the progress the national team has made since he took over the coaching reigns.

The Belgian coach was appointed head coach in May 2021 succeeding Molefi Ntseki. The latter was sacked after failing to qualify for the 2022 AFCON finals hosted in Cameroon.

The 69-year-old Broos faced heavy criticism over the selection of players. However, he didn’t entertain any talks as he kept on doing what he believes will work.

The plan finally worked as South Africa sealed a spot in the 2023 AFCON competition which will be hosted in Ivory Coast with one match to play.

HOW HUGO BROOS HAS IMPROVED BAFANA BAFANA

Broos says there is a big progression as the puzzle is now complete. The mentor has managed to identify the players he wants to use.

“There is something we built up during the last two years. We searched a lot, we used a lot of players. Suddenly, last year in September the puzzle was complete,” Broos told SAFA media.

“We did a big progression I think if you compare it with last year in September or in June when we played Morocco. So the progression is there, but we still need to achieve some things and progress in some things.

“The boys didn’t really understand what I want, now I really have a group and I feel what I say they will do it and they will try to do it.”

WHAT HUGO BROOS IS HAPPY ABOUT WITH THE CURRENT BAFANA BAFANA SQUAD

According to Broos, he’s happy that he created a healthy competition as all players are rising their hands for positions.

“They are working for their positions and they are competitive. They want to play, want to be in the team, that’s something you see on training.

“We can do it, we always have the same players. They can increase the level, that is nice to work on for a coach. This is something I wanted, I have it now,” he added.
