Midfielder ends Maritzburg United stay after relegation

One of the regular players has announced his exit from Maritzburg United following the club’s relegation from the DStv Premiership.

The Pietermaritzburg-based club fell short in the PSL Promotion Playoffs. They failed to find their way back to the top-flight after they had finished 15th last season.

The Team of Choice were hoping to get a victory that would save them from the chop on Wednesday. However, they played a goalless draw with Cape Town Spurs.

The Urban Warriors won a promotion, returning to the top-flight after a five-year absence. The Western Cape outfit was demoted in the 2017/18 season when they were still called Ajax Cape Town.

Travis Graham who has been one of the regulars in the blue colours has confirmed he’ll be leaving the club. Graham’s contract will expire on 30 June and the parties won’t be extending their relationship.

“I know that each and every one of us gave our all on the pitch and fought until the very end to save our club, but unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be.

“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to grow as a player and as a person. I will carry the lessons that I have learned here with me and I will always look back on my time with this club with fondness and pride.

“Thank you again for everything and farewell.”

The former Ajax Cape Town captain featured in 68 matches for the KZN side, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
