Maritzburg United make decision on technical team

Maritzburg United have made a decision on their technical team after being relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The Team of Choice finished 15th in the DStv Premiership table to play in the promotion/relegation playoffs where they couldn’t rescue their topflight status.

The KZN-based side participated in the playoffs against Casric Stars and Cape Town Spurs. The Capetonians subsequently sealed promotion to the Premiership through playoffs.

Maritzburg were far from convincing last season as they were in the drop zone for the better part of the campaign.

On the road to being relegated, Maritzburg only managed to win seven games in the league, drew nine and lost in 14 outings after 30 games. They only managed to accumulate 30 points in the just-ended season.

Meanwhile, Maritzburg chairman Farouk Kadodia lashed out at players in a club statement on Sunday, 18th of June, accusing them of purposely relegating the club.

Kadodia was evidently unhappy with the efforts of the team. SABC Sport reported that the club has let go of the entire technical team.

“We informed the coach and his entire technical team we will let them go. So they are free really to go where they want,” the chairman said.

Kadodia further revealed that the club was aware that head coach Fadlu Davids was in talks with Raja Casablanca while they were fighting relegation.

Davids is rumoured be on his way to join Josef Zinnbauer who was recently roped in Raja coach.

“It’s disappointing but we heard about the talks with Raja Casablanca some 10 days ago. This is while we were still fighting for survival before we eventually got relegated. But we wish coach Fadlu and his team all the best,” he added.
