Baroka boss confirms technical team addition

Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele has confirmed that the club has added a new member to its technical team ahead of the 2023/23 season.

Bakgaga have beefed up its technical with the addition of coach Amukelani Hlungwani.

‘Jay Jay’, as he is popularly known within the football circles will be Baroka’s first assistant coach to Stanford Nkoane.

Hlungwani joins the Motsepe Foundation Championship side from the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League outfit Mpheni Home Defenders, where he worked under the leadership of Phuravhathu Sidwell.

Hlungwani guided Mpheni to the South African football third-tier national playoffs after winning the provincial playoffs.

Unfortunately, Mpheni were eliminated in the semi-finals of the national playoffs by Upington City of the Northern Cape with a 3-2 scoreline on penalties. The game ended 1-1 in regulation time.

Hlungwani also coached the likes of Wayeni Sea Robbers and Munaca FC.

THE THIRD TECHNICAL TEAM MEMBER

Meanwhile, Job Maphutha will serve as Baroka’s third assistant coach in the upcoming campaign.

Baroka chairman Khurishi Mphahlele confirmed the appointment of Hlungwani, citing that he saw potential in him after a good season with Mpheni.

“He is going to be our team’s first assistant coach to Stanford Nkoane,” Mphahlele told FARPost

“You know, he has got the potential. I saw his potential after he guided Mpheni to win the league.

“They [Mpheni] only conceded four goals the whole season. And that’s a good record. It shows that he knows his story.”

Last season, the club made several technical team changes due to inconsistent results.

When the last campaign started, Vincent Kobola was the man in charge, however, after some inconsistent results, the side parted ways with coach Kobola.

Baroka went on to appoint Bushy Moloi, who took over the coaching reigns from Kobola.

Moloi worked along side with Nkoane as co-coaches until he was shown the exit door following a string of poor results.

And Nkoane then took over the club, as he finished the last term on the 10th position with 39 points.
