Latest on Bongani Khumalo’s links with AmaZulu

Former Bafana Bafana defender Bongani Khumalo has become the latest name to be linked with AmaZulu FC Sporting Director’s role. Here is the latest update on the news.

Last week, SABC Sport reported the former Tottenham Hotspur defender had been identified as the right man for the job by AmaZulu’s hierarchy.

The Sporting Director role is one of the positions that has been added to the club’s structure by president Sandile Zungu.

Kaizer Motaung Jr. of Kaizer Chiefs and Flemming Berg of Mamelodi Sundowns are the perfect examples of people who’re in this position in their respective clubs in the PSL.

AmaZulu have also been looking for a new head coach after interim coach Ayanda Dlamini was relieved of his duties. And Romain Folz, who was a head coach prior to redeployment to the Technical Director, tendered his resignation.

Usuthu have interviewed a number of coaches both locally and internationally.

FARPost understands Khumalo was part of the panel that interviewed coaches for the vacant head coach position. It is believed he has already started performing the duties of the Sporting Director.

AmaZulu have been linked with Gavin Hunt, Luc Eymael, Alfons Groenendijk, Pablo Franco Martin and Manqoba Mngqithi. And, as previously reported by FARPost, Eymael has been the frontrunner for the job.

The Belgian coach has worked in the PSL before. He mentored Free State Stars, Black Leopards and Polokwane City. He won the Nedbank Cup with Ea Lla Koto in 2018, beating Fadlu Davids’ Maritzburg United 2-1 in the final.

Further, Zungu has reassured AmaZulu fans that they will be happy when the club announces the new coach. “I can guarantee you that people will be happy when we announce the new coach,” said Zungu as quoted by SABC Sport.
