Mdantsane’s arrival at Chiefs could spell trouble for five players
With the impending arrival of Mduduzi Mdantsane at Kaizer Chiefs, there are five players who are most likely to be affected by the signing of the highly-rated midfielder.
Just after the conclusion of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership, Amakhosi have been busy in the market for an attacking midfielder and managed to sign Cape Town City star Mduduzi Mdantsane.
The Soweto giants are eager to strengthen their squad in all departments including the midfield area with the transfer window period set to open on 1 July, 2023.
Following a rather poor season under coach Arthur Zwane, FARPost writer Mauwane Raophala looks at five players that could be affected by Mdantsane’s arrival at Amakhosi.
Chiefs failed to win any silverware in the just-ended campaign to extend their trophy drought to eight years. In addition, they finished fifth in the league, missing out on a spot in the CAF inter-club competitions.
FIVE PLAYERS COULD BE AFFECTED MDUDUZI MDANTSANE’S MOVE TO KAIZER CHIEFS
1. LEHLOGONOLO MATLOU
The attacking midfielder joined Chiefs from Swallows last season. However, it hasn’t been the easiest period for him as he only played a total number of 383 minutes.
The playmaker has played 15 games since joining the Glamour Boys from Maswaiswai, mostly coming in as a substitute.
Now, with the arrival of Mduduzi, Matlou will have to prove himself that he is a real deal in a dysfunctional Chiefs attack.
2. KAMOHELO MAHLATSI
The attacker midfielder is another player who joined Amakhosi from the Dube Birds. Unfortunately, the player failed to become an instant hit in Chiefs’ colours.
The former SuperSport United man only managed to feature in only seven games for Chiefs across all competitions the last term.
Despite spending most of the campaign on the sidelines, Mahlatsi will be hoping to come back stronger next season and challenge Mdantsane in the starting line-up.
3. NKOSINGIPHILE NGCOBO
Nkosingiphile Ngcobo is one player that one can rely on. However, his blistering display this past season succumbed to a premature ending as he suffered a thigh muscle setback.
The star player played 16 games in all competitions before suffering his setback in the just-ended PSL campaign.
When the new season commences, he will have to up his game after spending quite some time on the sidelines, as the new player in Mdantsane has arrived.
4. SIYETHEMBA SITHEBE
Siyethemba Sithebe is one player who has been phenomenal for Chiefs last season, having joined them from AmaZulu. He started the campaign not so well, however, the player turned into a gold and managed to feature in 28 games across all competitions for Amakhosi.
But with the arrival of Mdantsane, Sithebe will have to work extra hard to keep his place, as competition in the midfield is about to be stiff.
5. MDUDUZI SHABALALA
The Amakhosi Academy product looked tailor-made for coach Arthur Zwane. When on song, Shabalala made the Glamour Boys midfield work. But his lack of experience might be something that gives Mdantsane an upper hand.
Tshabalala played 22 games for Chiefs last season. This showed that the 19-year-old was one of the trusted lieutenants and key for Zwane. But Mdantsane has also shown terrific intelligence and exerts more significant influence in games for his former club.
