SAFA announce Bafana Bafana coaches for COSAFA Cup

SAFA have announced the appointment of Morena Ramoreboli as the head coach of the Bafana Bafana team set to play in the upcoming COSAFA Cup.

Raymond Mdaka will serve as Morena Ramoreboli’s assistant coach.

Ramoreboli recently led Botswana side Jwaneng Galaxy to a 2023 Premier League title. Mdaka on the other hand helped Marumo Gallants reach the last four of the CAF Confederations Cup.

The tournament will run from 5-16 July in Durban. Two coaches are expected to name their squad on Friday, 23 June.

COSAFA CUP SQUAD TO BE ANNOUNCED

The squad will go into camp on 27 June 2023 in Durban.

SAFA Technical Director Walter Steenbok says the two coaches have the pedigree to make the country proud.

Ramoreboli first emerged in 2013 when he was in charge of Maluti FET College in their Nedbank cup famous victory against Orlando Pirates. 

Besides the success in Botswana, Ramoreboli also led Bafana Bafana to the 2021 COSAFA Cup title. He has also led Galaxy to the group stages of the CAF Champions League in 2021. 

Mdaka on the other hand is not new to the SAFA set-up. He served as the SAFA Instructor in Limpopo for many years before he joined Marumo Gallants. he was in charge at Dynamos as City Pillars in the national first division.

Mdaka has also taken charge of the Limpopo under-17 and under-21 squads. In 2019 he was appointed SAFA Limpopo Provincial Technical Officer.

He has won the Coca-Cola Under 17 Championship three times and was voted coach of the tournament in 2015. Bafana Bafana have been drawn against Namibia, eSwatini and Botswana in Group A. The tournament will also be the first under the new format where the top-ranked teams start from the group stage.

Nations are split in three groups of four sides. Three pool winners and the best runner-up will advance to the semifinals.
