DStv Prem teams show interest in signing Van Heerden

A number of DStv Premiership teams have reportedly shown interest in securing the services of Baroka FC midfielder Luciano van Heerden.

With the 2022/23 PSL season over, many players have left their respective clubs. On the other end, most of the teams are also busy in the market trying to bolster their squads before the pre-season starts in a couple of weeks.

Last month, this publication reported that nine players will be leaving Bakgakga as part of squad overhaul.

The club’s chairman Khurishi Mphahlele said they are releasing many players as they want to bounce back stronger and fight for 2023/24 Motsepe Foundation Championship title.

This comes after a poor season as the club finished at the bottom half in the ninth place. To add, the club had three coaching changes [Vincent Kobola, Bushy Moloi and Stan Nkoane] in an bid to bring stability and grind results.

“The objective is clear next season. We must fight for promotion. We’re going to release a couple of players and refresh the team,” Mphahlele told FARPost.

“We performed badly this season. It was the worst season for us. I think our recruitment was badly handled. We recruited badly at the start of the season.”

Van Heerden’s name was amongst the players who are heading for exit. The 28-year-old’s contract expires end of June 2024.

FARPost can confirm from a trusted source that about two teams have contacted the club about his services. However, at this point, there has been no agreements.

The central midfielder joined the Polokwane outfit on a two-year deal ahead of the just-ended campaign from ABC Motsepe League side Highlands Park FC after showing and displaying great potential.
