Ex-Chiefs star points out why the club didn’t pursue Mosimane
Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Dominic Isaacs has pointed out why Amakhosi didn’t pursue Pitso Mosimane, whose coaching services are highly in demand.
The former Al Ahly coach, Mosimane was in the market for a brief period after terminating his contract with Al Ahli Saudi, a club he successfully promoted to the Saudi Pro League after winning the Yelo League title.
Mosimane, who left Al Ahli due to unpaid dues was linked with several clubs including Chiefs before deciding to pen a deal with Al Wahda in the UAE Pro League. He will be joined by his trusted lieutenants in fitness trainer Kabelo Rangoaga, performance analysts Musi Matlaba, and Kyle Solomon.
And despite Mosimane issuing a “come and get me” message to potential suitors, Chiefs did not table an offer for the ex-Bafana Bafana. The coach had made it known that he would consider joining Amakhosi if “the project is right”.
Chiefs failed to win a trophy in the just-ended season and to qualify for the CAF inter-club competition under Arthur Zwane. This extended the club’s trophy drought to eight years. As a result, the Amakhosi management are looking for a new coach.
However, prior to securing a deal with Wahda, Mosimane had made it clear that “he was not in a position to send applications because if somebody wants you they will come and talk to you. I take a call from anybody because I am a professional football coach.”.
It seems Wahda gave Mosimane an offer he couldn’t decline as he remains in the Middle East with his technical team.
WHY KAIZER CHIEFS DID NOT APPROACH PITSO MOSMANE
With Mosimane out of the question, Chiefs have been holding talks with former Young Africans SC coach Nasreddine Nabi. But the two parties are yet to find common ground. As reported by FARPost, Nabi wants to bring his entire technical team but Amakhosi disapprove of that.
Dominic Isaacs believes Chiefs did not make more of an effort to bring Mosimane to Naturena because he would also want to rope in his own technical team.
The former Chiefs star added that Mosimane’s salary and demands were likely going to be too high for the club to meet.
“I think everybody would have liked to have Pitso Mosimane as Chiefs coach but it wouldn’t have been cheap for them to appoint him,” Isaacs told FARPost.
“First and foremost Pitso’s package. I don’t think Chiefs could have afforded him.. Secondly if they made that appointment, Pitso would have brought his own backroom staff.
“So in order for that to happen Kaizer Chiefs then had to terminate all their current backroom staff. This would also cost them a lot of money. I think for me it was basically down to those points.”
