Mosimane leaves door open for DStv Premiership return
Renowned South African coach Pitso Mosimane has hinted at a possible return to coaching in the DStv Premiership in the near future.
The last time Mosimane coached a club in SA’s top-flight was back in 2019/20 PSL season with Mamelodi Sundowns.
In that particular campaign he had a great stint with the Tshwane giants guiding them to a treble. They won the Premiership, Telkom Knockout and the Nedbank Cup.
After his successes in South Africa, he was snapped by Egyptian giants Al Ahly and since then he hasn’t looked back. In the two years he spent in North Africa, Mosimane won six titles; two CAF Champions Leagues, two CAF Super Cups, Egyptian Cup and Egyptian Premier League.
The 58-year-old then left to the Middle East and promoted Al Ahli Saudi back to the Saudi Pro League by winning the First Division Championship. Now he’s enroute to UAE to coach Al Wahda FC.
PITSO MOSIMANE ON COACHING A SOUTH AFRICAN AGAIN
According to the mentor, he’s not ruling a return to coach in the country in future as anything can happen.
“But why not, you never say never [coaching in South Africa], this is a business,” Mosimane told SNAWA.
“If you Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns or Kaizer Chiefs you have a brand that you’ve built. You want Pep Guardiola you have to match the level of that he has his own team.
“I coach a project, I like a project. Home is where we get sharpened as coaches”
NO SA CLUB HAS enquired ABOUT PITSO MOSIMANE’S SERVICES IN THE PAST YEARS
The mentor dubbed ‘Jingles’ further revealed that no team in the country has inquired about his services in the last few years. Before signing for Al Wahda FC, he was linked with a move to Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.
“No South African team has spoken to me in the last three years. If you want the coach you will get the coach, the is available.
“I speak to my office, my office says nobody has spoken to us, nobody has a deal on the table. It’s unfortunate what should I do, apply?”.
