Swallows goalkeeper Akpeyi throws weight behind Nyatama

Swallows goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has thrown his weight behind Musa Nyatama, explaining why the coach has done fairly well in the early stages of his managerial career.

Akpeyi was lured by the Dube Birds towards the end of the just-ended season in an attempt to address the goalkeeping situation at the club which was concerning.

Upon his arrival, Nyatama entrusted Akpeyi in between the sticks. Nyatama played a huge role in ensuring the club avoided the relegation axe the DStv Premiership.

He was in charge of nine matches following Ernst Middendorp’s resignation in February. Nyatama managed to win five games, drew one and suffered three defeats.

DANIEL AKPEYI ON MUSA NYATAMA’S WORKS AT SWALLOWS FC

According to Akpeyi, he’s not surprised that Nyatama has done well in a short time because he’s a hard worker.

“He’s a very humble and hard working person. He takes his job seriously. I’m not surprised that in a short period of time he started coaching, he has learnt so much,” Akpeyi told FARPost.

“Coach Nyatama wants to carry everybody along so well and tries to put discipline. It’s difficult for someone who just finished playing and get into that space and give instructions.”

MUSA NYATAMA REWARDED WITH A PERMAMENT CONTRACT

For his efforts, the former Orlando Pirates midfielder was rewarded with a permanent role as the head coach of Swallows ahead of the 2023/24 season. Nyatama, 35, led the club to an eighth place finish to qualify for the MTN8.

Club chairman David Mogashoa revealed that Nyatama is the right man for the job.

“And when coach Middendorp left, he was the right person to take over. So, I’ve always believed in coach Musa,” Mogashoa told FARPost.

“And it’s also good to give the young coaches a chance. If you don’t give them a chance, no one else will give them a chance.

“So, it’s a good thing that he played for Swallows and he’s getting his coaching career experience at Swallows because we believe that he will go far.”
