SuperSport United close in on Ditlhokwe’s replacement
SuperSport United are closing in on Thatayaone Ditlhokwe’s replacement following the Botswana international’s move to Kaizer Chiefs.
Thatayaone Ditlhokwe signed a pre-contract with Chiefs in January and is set to join the team as they begin pre-season next week.
The left-footed centre-back leaves a void at Matsatsantsa as they go to the CAF Confederation Cup.
The club has swiftly convinced Mosa Lebusa to join them before the new season.
“He’s very close to joining SuperSport United, but he’ll have to accept a pay cut because they won’t pay him what Sundowns were paying. “The club feel he could be a perfect replacement for TT and he comes with experience playing on the continent,” a source told FARPost.
SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews recently admitted they would be interested in Lebusa, but the package would likely be the issue.
Stan Matthews ON MOSA LEBUSA
It seems the two parties are making headway in agreeing on a deal that could see him play for Sundowns’ neighbours.
“Mosa Lebusa, I haven’t had an indication from Sundowns that he’s available,” Matthews told FARPost.
“Obviously he’s a player we would have interest in but realistically he’s on a massive package. And I’m not sure if we’re going to be able to have him because his package is very large.
“A lovely player, but you have to try and get what you can afford.”
In addition, indications are that Sundowns exercised their option to keep Lebusa at Chloorkop. However, as the two clubs negotiate, over Thapelo Maseko, Sundowns are reportedly willing to let Lebusa go the other direction.
The 30-year-old versatile player, who can play as a centre-back or left-back, was also linked with Orlando Pirates.
Lebusa is an Ajax Cape Town graduate and has been capped six times for Bafana Bafana. He joined Mamelodi Sundowns in 2018 and was key in recent season, also captaining the side on occasion.
However, his playing time was reduced under Rulani Mokwena last season. In the DStv Premiership, he featured 11 times this season, with six of those off the bench.
