Chiefs face uphill battle to offload Bimenyimana

DStv Premiership giants Kaizer Chiefs are facing an uphill battle to offload out-of-favour forward Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana.

The Burundian international was on the periphery towards the end of the season, with head coach Arthur Zwane preferring January signing Christian Saile.

Bimenyimana had started the first half of the season well, weighing in with a couple of goals after joining the club at the start of the season.

CHIEFS TRYING TO OFFLOAD BIMENYIMANA

He scored eight goals in 21 appearances in all competitions last season. However, after failing to hold down a starting place in the second half of the season, the club made it clear to him that he was unwanted.

With a year left on his contract, Amakhosi were looking to sell or loan him out for the remainder of his contract.

The Soweto giants have, however, yet to find a willing club to take him. Many clubs are reluctant to take on Bimenyimana.

“Caleb is returning to the club after playing well for Burundi in the AFCON qualifier. He’s not taking the overseas offer, so he’s returning to Chiefs for pre-season. It looks like it’ll be tricky to move him this transfer window,” a source told FARPost.

SPARKLES FOR NATIONAL TEAM

The 25-year-old scored and provided an assist as Burundi beat Peter Shalulile’s Namibia 3-2 on Tuesday in an AFCON qualifier.

It is unclear what the future holds for Bimenyimana. Chiefs could still sell him, but it is also possible that he will remain at the club for the rest of the season. If he stays, he will need to improve his performance significantly to win back the fans’ trust.

Meanwhile, Chiefs could have a new centre forward in Ranga Chivaviro. The former Marumo Gallants striker is headed for Naturena.
