Richards Bay FC give update on home venue renovation

Richards Bay FC have given an update on the renovation of the club’s home venue uMhlathuze Sports Complex.

The Natal Rich Boyz moved from Richards Bay to Umlazi’s King Zwelithini Stadium when the club was still in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The uMhlathuze Sports Complex couldn’t meet the Premier Soccer League [PSL] standards.

According to the reports last year, the uMhlathuze Municipality had budgeted close to R200 million for the refurbishment and renovation of the stadium in the 2022/2023 financial year.

Speaking to this publication, the club’s General Manager James Dlamini revealed that next season, they will continue using King Zwelithini Stadium until September.

Thereafter, the club will move back to its home venue, uMhlathuze Sports Complex.

“We’ll start our season in Umlazi because the stadium [Umhlathuze Sports Complex] is about to be finalised,” Dlamini told FARPost.

“Probably by September, we should be going back to uMhlathuze. We’ll be in Durban for one month before we go back home.

“It’ll depend on the finalisation of the stadium this side. But next season, we’ll play more matches in uMhlathuze than in Durban.”

CLUB’S TECHNICAL TEAM CHANGES

Meanwhile, the Natal Rich Boyz have made changes in their technical team as they’re preparing for their second season in the top-flight.

They recently sacked their head coach Vasili Manousakis, and two assistant coaches Pitso Dladla and Ronnie Gabriel.

The KZN outfit is currently in the hunt for Manousakis’ successor. Bay were, at some point, close to securing Josef Zinnbauer’s services. However, the German was snatched by Raja Casablanca.

The club has also parted ways with one of the key players Luvuyo Memela. The former Orlando Pirates attacking midfielder spent only one season with Richards Bay after he joined as a free agent at the beginning of the past season.
