Why Ishmael Wadi’s Stellenbosch FC move is stalling

Ishmael Wadi’s agent has revealed why the Zimbabwean star’s Stellenbosch FC move is currently hanging in the balance.

The speedy winger has been in the books of Motsepe Foundation Championship since July.

Ishmael Wadi joined JDR Stars from CAPS United of Zimbabwe in 2021 and he became an instant hit.

In his maiden season, he managed to score nine goals. Last season, the 30-year-old managed 12 goals in 25 matches.

And his decent scoring abilities have had Stellenbosch knocking on JDR Stars’ door for Ismael Wadi’s services.

However, the Zimbabwean star’s Stellenbosch move has been stalling between the two parties.

Ishmael Wadi’s agent revealed why the Zimbabwean star’s Stellenbosch move is stalling.

“The offer is there but actually the reason making it slow is that Wadi is still under contract with JDR Stars.

“So there must be club-to-club agreements first before anything. We can try to move forward but that’s actually where we are stuck but not for long because we are busy talking with other clubs.

“I’m busy trying to convince the interested club to increase the transfer fee but right now I don’t want to jeopardize our negotiations. We don’t want to push out the interested party,” John of Royal Bridge Industries told FARPost.

The Cape Town-based club is hoping to fill in the gap left as Junior Mendieta and Iqraam Rayners could leave.

DOOR STILL OPEN FOR WADI’S SERVICES

The agent added that they haven’t closed the door on other potential suitors needing the Zimbabwean star’s services.

Initially, four clubs registered their interest in the Zimbabwean striker. They include AmaZulu FC, Sekhukhune United and Cape Town City.

Stellenbosch however appear to have struck the right chords with Ishmael Wadi’s management. Last season, Ishmael Wadi was the highest-scoring Zimbabwean in the South African football landscape.
