Venda FC snap up Mpheni captain  

Motsepe Foundation Championship side Venda Football Club has snapped up Mpheni Home Defenders captain Thabelo Tshikweta, FARPost has learnt. 

Tshikweta played a significant role in helping the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League outfit Mpheni win their Stream A with 45 points, nine points ahead of second-placed Giyani Happy Boys. 

Mpheni went on to win the Provincial Playoffs after defeating The Dolphins 1-0 at the Oscar Mpetha Stadium in Turfloop, University of Limpopo last month. 

The victory saw them compete at the National Playoffs earlier this month representing Limpopo province. The National Playoffs were held in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. 

Unfortunately, Mpheni were eliminated in the semi-finals of the national playoffs by Upington City of the Northern Cape. City won 3-2 on penalties. The game ended 1-1 in regulation time.

VENDA FOOTBALL CLUB SIGN MPHENI HOME DEFENDERS CAPTAIN 

This publication has gathered that the Vhembe-based side the talented striker has signed a  two-year deal this Saturday.

Tshikweta also represented the amateur side African All Stars and Free State Stars Multi Diski Change side. 

On the other hand, the Joel Masutha side have signed the former Black Leopards goalkeeper Rotshidzwa Muleka. 

To add to that, Rilindeni ‘Dzimbi’ Manweda is back with the club from a loan move at United Artists.

Last season, Venda Club finished in 12th position with 38 points in Motsepe Foundation Championship. This was the club’s second season in the SA second-tier league.

On Wednesday, 28 June, the club announced that they will now be known as Venda Football Club next season. The side was well-known as Venda Football Academy. 

With the new campaign fast approaching, the side will be hoping to achieve its ultimate goal of gaining automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership. 

The Vhembe outfit will announce their new recruits in due course.
