Former Pirates striker joins Township Rollers

A former Orlando Pirates striker has joined Botswana giants Township Rollers on a two-year deal.

Township Rollers lost out on the Botswana Premier League title to Jwaneng Galaxy, led by South African-born coach Morena Ramoreboli.

Ramoreboli, who guided Galaxy to the league title also helped the club qualify for CAF Champions League next season. In addition, Ramoreboli was appointed as the head coach to lead Bafana Bafana in the COSAFA Cup.

With Rollers missing out on the league title, they have moved swiftly to beef up their squad for next season.

The Blues have signed Pirates youth product Siphamandla Sangweni on a two-year deal. Sangweni struggled to make a real impact in the Pirates first team and he was send on couple of loans across the league.

Amongst teams that Sangweni played for in South Africa is Baroka FC, Black Aces, All Stars and Black Leopards.

Sangweni will be joining former Pirates duo Sfiso Myeni and Rooi Mahamutsa who both play for VTM FC.

Myeni and Mahamutsa helped VTM gain promotion to the Botswana elite league for next campaign.

“Township Rollers is pleased to announce the signing of the South African forward Siphamandla Sangweni,” the club announced in a statement.

“The former Orlando Pirates and Baroka striker joins Popa on a two-year contract. Join us in welcoming him to the Blues.”

Rollers will be looking to make a real push and dethrone Galaxy from the league honours in the upcoming season.

Rollers last won the Premiership in Botswana during 2017/18 and 2018/19 season when they won it back-to-back.

Furthermore. Rollers won 30 games in the league, drawn 14 and lost in 30 games. They finished 4th on the log after accumulating 53 points.
