Stellenbosch FC exodus set to continue

The Stellenbosch FC exodus looks set to continue as more players are reportedly heading towards the exit door.

A former Baroka FC centre-back has run out of favour at Stellenbosch FC and is set to be released by the Steve Barker-coached side at the end of the month.

So far, Baroka has cut ties with seven players: Reid Bombay, Keegan Pool, Solomon Letsoenyo and Solly Khunyedi. Lance Weaver, Juan Carlos Ortíz, and Glen Hahn complete the list of the players whose respective contracts expired.

Stellies are likely to part ways with three more players that have been heavily linked with PSL giants.

Iqraam Rayners and Olwethu Makhanya have been linked with Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

Argentine star Junior Mendieta is said to have already agreed to join Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of the 2023/24 season.

And it has now emerged that Stellenbosch FC are preparing to sever ties with a former Baroka centre-back.

This is despite the fact that he has one-year remaining on his contract having joined on a two-year agreement last in July 2022.

FARPost contacted Sibiya, but the 29-year-old was reluctant to comment. “This is not the right time to talk. Maybe next week. I can’t talk about anything right now,” the former Baroka FC centre-back said.

Sibiya joined Stellenbosch as a free agent after terminating his deal with Baroka FC when they were relegated.

At that point, he was left with a year on his contract with the relegated side, but he asked to be released.

And Stellies were quick to pounce on him, beating Sekhukhune United to his signature. The centre-back was a direct replacement for Zitha Kwinika, who had just reunited Kaizer Chiefs.

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch themselves have been on the ground aiming to beef up their squad. They have been heavily linked with Zimbabwe winger Ishmael Wadi who has been in the books of JDR Stars.

On the other hand, they added goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke to their ranks as well as former Ubuntu Football Club goalkeeper Dejean Ah Shaune.
