Kaizer Jr ‘saddened’ by Amakhosi’s latest departure

Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr has revealed that he is ‘saddened’ by the club’s latest departure.

This comes after Chiefs confirmed the departure of an experienced midfielder ahead of the 2023/24 PSL season.

Amakhosi have cut ties with Cole Alexander on a mutual agreement. The club confirmed the news on Friday, 30 June 2023.

Alexander is now a free agent and can join any team of his choice.

The former SuperSport United man had a year remaining on his deal with the Soweto giants but the two parties decided to go their separate ways.

The Cape Town-born had signed for Amakhosi on a three-year contract as a free agent after parting ways with Indian club Odisha back in 2021.

During the 33-year-old footballer’s stay at Chiefs, he played 28 games and weighed in with one goal.

Last season, the player had challenges with injuries which saw him spending most of his time on the sidelines.

Motaung Jr has since come forward to say that it’s sad to see a player of Alexander’s calibre leave the club.

“We are sad to see a talented player like Cole leave the club,” said Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr.

“But, having spoken with his people, we came to the conclusion that it is in the interests of all parties for us to let him go.

“We will always appreciate Cole’s contribution to Kaizer Chiefs and give him our blessings and wish him everything of the best in his career.”

The ex-Ajax Cape Town player is the fourth player to leave Chiefs, as the new season looms large.

Other players who have left the club are Siyabonga Ngezana, Phathutshedzo Nange, and Erick Mathoho.

Nange has joined SuperSport United, while Ngezana moved overseas to Romanian Lige 1 powerhouse, Fotbal Club FCSB.
