Swallows FC make first signing ahead of new season
Swallows FC have made their first signing of the transfer window ahead of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.
The Dube Birds have completed the acquisition of the midfielder Daweron Van Rhyn from Upington City FC on a five-year deal.
Last month, Van Rhyn played an integral role in the Northern Cape outfit’s promotion from the ABC Motsepe League to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
He earned himself a Bafana Bafana call-up to the preliminary squad of the COSAFA Cup. However, he didn’t make the cut in the final team.
Having fought and avoided relegation towards the end of the last campaign, Swallows have started reinforcing the squad for Musa Nyatama’s first season as a permanent head coach.
MUSA NYATAMA’S FIRST SEASON AS A PERMANENT HEAD COACH
The 35-year-old coach was in charge of the Birds on an interim basis when they sidestepped the drop zone last season.
This was after the departure of Ernst Middendorp, who got an offer in his home country, Germany.
Nyatama been trusted with the driver’s seat and the club’s chairman David Mogashwa confirmed his appointment as a permanent head coach in May.
Meanwhile, the club recently announced that Ditheko Mototo would take up the assistant coach role. The former Kaizer Chiefs defender served in the same position at Royal AM, Bloemfontein Celtic Maritzburg United.
NICHOLUS LUKHUBENI AND BONGANI SAM’S FUTURES AT SWALLOWS?
The Soweto outfit still has a business to discuss with Mamelodi Sundowns, the mother club of Nicholus Lukhubeni who spent the previous season at Swallows on a season-long loan.
FARPost understands Nyatama’s side want to retain the 27-year-old’s services if the Brazilians don’t recall him.
Meanwhile, according to SABC Sport, Orlando Pirates loanee Bongani Sam will wave goodbye to Swallows in this transfer window.
The public broadcaster reported that the left-back might join Chippa United on loan ahead of the upcoming season.
