Patrick Viera unveiled as new coach of Bafana international

Former Crystal Palace coach Patrick Vieira has been appointed head coach of Bafana Bafana International Lebo Mothiba in France.

Vieira had signed a three-year contract as coach of RC Strasbourg Alsace. Mothiba has been at Strasbourg since 2018 but spent last season at Troyes.

He has struggled with injuries in recent times but has reportedly recovered ahead of the new season.

It is also alleged that English giants Chelsea have bought a 40% stake in the French side which could see them compete amongst the best club in Ligue 1.

Meanwhile, the 47-year-old Viera has been without a job after being fired by Crystal Palace in March.

“I am particularly happy to join Racing,” said the French-born Vieira.

“I know the history and the identity of this club, the importance it has for its region, which is a place of football and passion.

“The rebuilding of the club in recent years, under the direction of Marc Keller, is an example to be admired. Working with him is a real pleasure for me,” he told the club’s website.

“Today, a new cycle begins for Racing and it is exciting as a coach to be able to build something while relying on the values that have defined the strength of the club.”

HUGE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE EX-FRENCH INTERNATIONAL

Club president Marc Keller has also welcomed the Arsenal legend. He says they are hoping he will make the club progress further.

“I welcome Patrick Vieira, whom I know from the French national team. I am very happy to welcome him to Strasbourg,” said Keller.

“Patrick’s arrival should allow us to make further progress and to take a step forward. He corresponds to the profile we were looking for a manager with international experience, and who also has a good knowledge of Ligue 1 and its young players.

“We are convinced that he will be able to do a very good job here, in a healthy and fulfilling environment. We are going to put him in the best conditions so that he can succeed.”
