Sundowns midfielder close to joining CT Spurs
Cape Town Spurs are reportedly close to concluding a deal for one of Mamelodi Sundowns’ midfielders ahead of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.
CT Spurs participated in the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season, and they gained promotion to the top flight through the PSL Promotion/Relegation playoffs.
The Cape Town-based outfit has moved swiftly to tie down a handful of their key players with improved contracts.
Leo Thethani, Michael Morton, Nazeer Allie, Clayton Daniels, Lubeni Haukongo, Therlo Moosa, Morne Nel, Zama Dlamini and Logan Brown are some of the players the club managed to retain.
With CT Spurs aiming to compete on all fronts in the Premiership, this publication understands that the club will welcome one of the midfielders from Sundowns.
Siphesihle Mkhize will join CT Spurs permanently from the Tshwane giants. Personal terms are already agreed upon with the player.
The central midfielder will pen a three-year deal with Shaun Bartlett-coached team.
Meanwhile, Mkhize spent the 2022/23 campaign with Chippa United United on a season-long loan from Sundowns. He made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Chilli Boys.
SIPHESIHLE MKHIZE SET TO JOIN CAPE TOWN SPURS
“Siphesihle Mkhize has been doing very well with all the teams he played for on loan.
“We feel it’s the right time to find a permanent move for him,” his agent Ntobatsi Masegela told FARPost.
“Also, Mkhize needed to find a stable home because no player want to be going on a loan every season.
“He played for Ajax Cape Town before and this will be a familiar territory for the player. The coaches and management believe that he’s a player who can come and add value to the team.
In addition, Spurs have also confirmed they will retain the services of head coach Shaun Bartlett after promoting the team.
