Polokwane City replace Mpho Makola with exciting midfielder

Polokwane City are on the verge of signing an exciting midfielder as a replacement for Mpho Makola, who has left the club.

Makola left City this week after the club made a U-turn by not offering him a new deal. He joined them earlier this year as they fought for automatic promotion.

The verbal agreement was that they would extend his deal if they gained promotion to the DStv Premiership.

CITY REPLACE MPHO MAKOLA

Weeks after winning the Motsepe Foundation Championship, the club has changed its mind about the former Orlando Pirates midfielder.

The Polokwane side has set its sights on an exciting midfielder who played his football at Baroka FC last season.

On Wednesday, a FARPost source spotted Luciano van Heerden playing a friendly against Magesi.

“He was exceptional in the friendly against Magesi FC. It looks like the City management won’t waste time. They’re signing him,” said the source.

The 28-year-old Van Heerden is an exciting midfielder known for his dribbling skills and passing ability.

Nicknamed Iniesta, he is expected to add a new dimension to Polokwane City’s midfield and help them maintain their DStv Premiership status.

DEPARTURE FROM BAROKA FC

Following his departure from Baroka on mutual consent, he has been linked with two PSL clubs, but he has opted to join Polokwane City in search of regular playing time.

He is a product of the Bidvest Wits youth structures and also spent some time at Highlands Park.

Van Heerden is the second signing of the new season for Polokwane City, and the club will likely be active in the transfer market in the coming weeks. They want to strengthen their squad in all areas and are targeting several players.

They signed Oswin Appollis from Pretoria Callies last week. Veteran winger Joseph Mhlongo also left the club alongside Makola.
