Richards Bay appoint Kaitano Tembo’s assistant

Richards Bay have confirmed the appointment of Kaitano Tembo’s assistant ahead of the new DStv Premiership season.

The Natal Rich Boyz have acquired the services of Siboniso ‘Jomo’ Gumede, who will serve as the club’s assistant coach under the former SuperSport United mentor Tembo.

Gumede is not new to the club, as he was the head coach of the club’s DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] last campaign.

In his playing days, Gumede turned out for arch-rivals AmaZulu FC, Bidvest Wits, and the now-defunct Platinum Stars.

RICHARDS BAY OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON KAITANO TEMBO’S ASSISTANT

“Richards Bay Football Club would like to confirm the appointment of Siboniso ‘Jomo’ Gumede as the Club’s new Assistant Coach,” read the statement.

“Siboniso ‘Jomo’ Gumede is a familiar face in South African Football. He’s a former player for AmaZulu FC, Bidvest Wits and Platinum Stars FC.

“He was the Head Coach of Richards Bay Football Club DDC team last season.

Tembo and Gumede will take over the club from Vasili Manousakis and his co-coaches Pitso Dladla and Ronnie Gabriel. The previous technical team were all shown the exit door.

This was after the Natal Rich Boyz finished the season in position 13 after collecting 33 points from 30 outings.

Tembo and his assistant will be hoping to revive the KZN side in the upcoming season. Given their extensive experience of the beautiful game anything is possible.

He [Tembo] will also want to prove a point that he is a better after his sacking last year in November at Sekhukhune United. His departure saw Brandon Truter appointed Babina Noko’s new coach.

At the Limpopo-based outfit, Tembo took charge of 12 games in the first round. He managed to win two matches and drew five, and succumbed to five defeats in the process.
