Budding Zimbabwean striker steps into Shalulile’s footsteps
A promising Zimbabwean striker has revealed undying love for the impressive Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile.
The rookie striker burst onto the scene in 2022 under the mentorship of former Chippa United forward Norman Mapeza.
At the age of 20, the FC Platinum gunslinger is easily one of the best strikers in Zimbabwe at the moment.
Last season he ended the season, with ten goals to his name for the four-time Zimbabwean champions.
And the forward, Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya, says following in Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile’s footsteps is like following a biblical star.
WHY THE ZIMBABWEAN STRIKER IS FOLLOWING SHALULILE’S FOOTSTEPS
Ngwenya admires the Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile’s so much that he imitates his celebration and trademark tuck-in.
For the Zimbabwean striker, this serves as a reminder of his aspirations to become a top striker in the Sourthern region, like Shalulile.
“I like the level of effort and hard work that he puts in all the time. He is a believer of hard work just like me. I follow him alot,” Ngwenya told FARPost.
“I admire hard workers but there is something about him [Peter Shalulile] that gives me strength.
“He is a hard worker that’s why he is different and his contribution is also different. To manage being the top goalscorer in a foreign land shows great character and great qualities.
“He is an asset, something that I also wish to be. But I know that it’s a gradual process. I have to work for it so that I rise to the level that I admire.”
Asked about imitating Peter Shalulile’s tuck-in, Ngwenya said: “When I feel like I’m tired I just think of his tuck in.
“I always tuck in when i’m tired, and it’s when I start to imitate Shalulile [Peter] so that I strengthen myself.
“He believes in God, that’s another thing which I take from him. There are so many things about him that give me inspiration.
“My wish is to meet him and possibly play side by side with him. I’m sure there is alot that I can learn from him.”
THE KHAMA BILLIAT IMPACT
The Zimbabwe striker is also inspired by his compatriot Khama Billiat who is a household name in the DStv Premiership.
“Khama is very creative, and I like the way he scores goals. He is very swift in terms of attacking,” Ngwenya said.
Ngwenya’s ultimate dream is to join the list of the Zimbabwe’s greats that include his coach Norman Mapeza, Benjani Mwaruwari, Peter Ndlovu and Knowledge Musona among others.
