Khama Billiat’s agent gives update on star’s future
Khama Billiat’s agent, Godfrey Bakasa, has given an update on the star’s future at Kaizer Chiefs.
Billiat’s contract with Chiefs ended on June 30, 2023, but the club has yet to announce his departure.
While Amakhosi confirmed the exits of Phathutshedzo Nange, Cole Alexander and Erick Mathoho, there has been no word about Billiat.
The former Zimbabwe international is not part of the Chiefs squad preparing for the new DStv Premiership season.
UPDATE ON KHAMA BILLIAT
Bakasa has since broken silence over his client’s future, saying no agreement has been reached yet.
“Khama is obviously grateful for his time at Kaizer Chiefs and greatly respects the club.
“He knows the club is on a rebuilding exercise and would love to be a part of that. He’s always wanted to make history with this iconic club.
“But that depends on whether we reach an agreement with them. We are still in talks with them and are trying to find a good solution for both parties,” Bakasa told FARPost.
Although he could not be drawn into disclosing details, it appears Billiat was offered a new deal which comes with a pay cut.
The skilful Zimbabwean forward has also been linked with a move to North Africa and Saudi Arabia.
Young Africans president Hersi Said Ally previously told this publication that he would jump at the opportunity of signing Billiat if he were available.
With Fiston Mayele, Yanga’s top striker, linked with a move away, signing Billiat would make sense.
Asked about other offers, Bakasa said that Billiat was still undecided about his future.
“Khama is still weighing up his options. He wants to make the best decision for his career.”
The agent said he expects to know more about Billiat’s future “in the next few days”. We are hoping to reach an agreement soon, hopefully in the next few days,” Bakasa added.
HIS EXPERIENCE AND PEDIGREE
Newly appointed Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki would likely be eager to keep the 32-year-old forward, considering his experience and pedigree.
In his 126 appearances for Chiefs, Billiat scored 24 goals and assisted 29. For Mamelodi Sundowns, he scored 48 goals and assisted 43 in 144 appearances.
That Downs stint came after a successful spell with Ajax Cape Town, where he notched 23 goals and 24 assists in 92 games.
It brings his South Africa tally to 95 goals and 96 assists in 362 appearances.
Billiat is a three-time league winner with Sundowns, and he also won the CAF Champions League with them in 2016. He also has the Nedbank Cup, Telkom Knockout and the CAF Super Cup.
Billiat’s future will likely be one of the most talked-about topics in South African football in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see where he ends up next.
