PSL club changes hands

The sale of a PSL club has been confirmed ahead of the upcoming season.

A week ago, FARPost reported that Motsepe Foundation Championship side Uthongathi FC has been sold and will relocate to Richards Bay under a new hierarchy.

This publication worked tirelessly to find out that the Cane Cutters were put on the market, and were bought by SAFA ABC Motsepe League outfit Milford FC. The club is under the leadership of Dr XBS Pupuma.

Last season, Milford finished as the KZN ABC Motsepe League Stream A winners after collecting 41 from 18 outings.

Unfortunately, the club went on to lose in the provincial playoffs to Umsinga United. Umsinga had topped Stream B with 38 points and qualified for the national playoffs.

MILFORD FC PURCHASE UTHONGATHI FC STATUS

Milford held a press conference at Premier Hotel The Richards on Friday, 7 July to confirm the news.

“We will be playing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship this season,” confirmed the club in a statement.

“Milford Football Club bought the status of Uthongathi Football Club. Welcome Stallions.”

With the club having bought Uthongathi status, their ABC Motsepe League status will be on sale.

To add to that, Milford will continue with it’s technical team from the third tier.

However, two players from Uthongathi have joined Milford. The two players are Xolani Slawula and Olwethu Cele.

Interestingly, Milford will have an U21 that will be competing in Regional League [SAB League].

In the last term, the Cane Cutters finished in position seven after amassing 41 points after 30 games. This comes after the side managed to win 10 matches, drew 11, and lost nine in the process.

The sale of Uthongathi does not come as a surprise simply because the club has been through a lot in the last three campaigns.

As the new season looms large, Milford will be hoping to achieve its ultimate goal of gaining automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership.
