Chiefs urged to sign Lesedi Kapinga and Co

Kaizer Chiefs have been urged to sign former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Lesedi Kapinga to boost their chances of reclaiming the old glory days.

Kapinga is a free agent and can speak freely to other teams after being released by DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns most recently.

The Limpopo-born star had joined Sundowns in 2020 on a three-year deal with an option to extend by another two seasons. However, the Tshwane giants decided not to extend Kapinga’s stay at Chloorkop.

Kapinga only made 39 appearances in three years at Sundowns, scoring four goals and providing seven assists. He is now unattached and will be eager to use his time with Bafana Bafana to earn a new contract in the DStv Premiership.

The 28-year-old is part of the Bafana squad made up of fringe players at the 2023 COSAFA Cup. The ex-Black Leopards star put in an impressive performance in the first game against Namibia.

Amakhosi have been busy in the transfer market as they ‘embark on a new era of success and silverware’. They have already signed seven new players and released several others deemed surplus to requirements.

Ex-KAIZER Chiefs STAR JUNIOR KHANYE Call for Kapinga Signing

The club’s former dribbling wizard, Junior Khanye, strongly believes that Kapinga would be a perfect addition to the squad being assembled by the management and head coach Molefi Ntseki.

The Naturena-based side’s trophy cabinet has gathered nothing but dust in the last eight seasons. And for the Soweto giants to revive their glory days and unique style of play, they need to sign quality players. That’s according to Khanye.

“Chiefs have been signing the wrong players. At Sundowns, there are players that are not used and Chiefs have the money to sign them,” Khanye told FARPost. The club needs to sign Kapinga, players like Sphelele Mkhulise and Mosa Lebusa.

“I mean Kapinga is a quality player and Chiefs should go for him. They were supposed to sign Haashim Domingo and Khanyisa Mayo as well, not Pule Mmodi.

“Why sign Mmodi and Mduduzi Mdantsane? Mmodi is 30 and Mdantsane is the same type of player as Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.”
