A former teammate of Khama Billiat at Mamelodi Sundowns has offered the Zimbabwean advice over his situation with Kaizer Chiefs.
Billiat joined Chiefs in 2018 after successful spells with Ajax Cape Town and Sundowns. After five years at the club, his contract expired last week, and he is yet to sign a new one.
Hlompho Kekana, who was Billiat’s teammate at Sundowns, believes Chiefs are making a mistake on the 32-year-old.
โI donโt know if Chiefs really know what theyโre doing, especially in terms of their star players, because, as a big team, you need your best performers.
โYes, Khama, in the last 3 years, hasnโt been playing. Heโs been out of the team quite often,โ Kekana said on SABCโs Soccer Zone.
โFor me, Iโd easily try to risk him, and give him a pay cut, and give him more years… As a player, you need security more than anything.
โI want to play for you, but you give me six months. I canโt even prove myself in those six months because Iโm playing under pressure.
โThereโs little room for me to express myself in that six monthsโฆ Weโre talking about form. As a striker, youโre judged on form in front of goals.โ

KEKANA’S ADVICE TO KHAMA BILLIAT
The former Sundowns captain, Kekana, has said that if he were Billiat, he would consider playing abroad.
โIf I were him, I was easily going to take that move [to the UAE] to start afresh in an environment where itโs new for you.
โIn South Africa, itโs gonna be difficult for him because he hasnโt played enough football in the last three years.
โAs a striker of Khamaโs calibre, youโre only as good as your last match. Youโll be expected to score goals because you have shown us what you can do,โ Kekana added.
Billiat has not yet announced his next move, but he is reportedly being linked with a move to either North Africa or the Middle East.
It will be interesting to see where he ends up next. If he does decide to play abroad, it will be a chance for him to prove that he is still one of the best players in Africa.
