Sammy Seabi unlikely to return to Sekhukhune United: What next?

Sammy Seabi’s loan spell at Sekhukhune United has come to an end, and the midfielder will is unlikely to return to the club.

Seabi spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Sekhukhune, making 23 appearances in all competitions. He scored one goal and provided two assists.

The talented defensive midfielder was part of the Babina Noko side that went as far as the Nedbank Cup final. They lost 2-1 to Orlando Pirates.

SAMMY SEABI BACK AT SUNDOWNS

The 28-year-old is still under contract with Mamelodi Sundowns but faces the challenge of 2022/23 Footballer of the Season, Teboho Mokoena, at the Brazilians.

Bongani Zungu and Rivaldo Coetzee also play the same position, and Seabi may find it difficult to break into the starting lineup.

Nonetheless, a source close to the developments said he was currently training with the club in Rustenburg.

According to the source, Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has indicated that he is in his plans for the new season.

“He’s with Sundowns as we speak. There’s no indication that he will return to Sekhukhune unless things change between now and the time the season kicks off. 

“Coach Rulani has said he is in his plans for the new season,” the source told FARPost.

He could stay at Sundowns and try to earn a place on the team. 

JAM-PACKED 2023/24 SEASON

However, he will need to impress in pre-season if he wants to be part of Sundowns’ plans for the upcoming season.

The reigning DStv Premiership are currently in Rustenburg, preparing for the new season. Downs will cap off their pre-season preps with a Netherlands tour ahead of the jam-packed 2023/24 season.

Mokwena will be looking to retain the DStv Premiership title while also fighting for the MTN8 and the Nedbank Cup. 

Having missed out on the CAF Champions League last season, they will be eager to get it right this time around.
