CT Spurs make decision on Botswana international
After running the rule over Botswana international Mothusi Cooper for a week, Cape Town Spurs have made a decision on the talented midfielder.
Cape Town Spurs are back in the DStv Premiership after piping Maritzburg United in the PSL promotional play-offs.
This was after they fell short of automatic promotion on the final day of the Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign.
The Mother City outfit has retained most of its players from last season. They also announced the signing of Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Siyanda Msani on a season-long loan.
Msani spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Richards Bay FC. The Ikamva-based outfit also tied down Luvuyo Phewa from Downs on another loan deal. They also wanted to add a few new faces to their 2023/24 squad.
Cooper, a full Botswana international capped 22 times, missed the COSAFA Cup, trying his luck in Cape Town. However, the club has taken a decision not to sign the 26-year-old midfielder.
COOPER DID NOT impress the CT SPURS coach
“He didn’t necessarily impress the coach, so they decided they would not sign him. He left Cape Town on Tuesday after spending a week training with the club,” a source told FARPost.
Cooper is also on the radar of Motsepe Foundation outfit Pretoria Callies who previously travelled to Botswana to engage him. He is currently out of contract with Gaborone United and can join any club of his choice.
The former Township Rollers has had stints outside his native country. He had a brief spell in Zambia, where he turned out for Lusaka Dynamos.
That was followed by a North Africa expedition where he spent a few months at Mouloudia d’Oudja.
The pint-sized linkman is unlikely to play his football in Botswana next season, with rumoured interest elsewhere in Africa.
