PSL side joins race for Eswatini midfield sensation

A PSL side has joined the race for the signature of the Eswatini midfield sensation as clubs are in a bid to assemble formidable squads for the next season.

Last week, FARPost reported that Siphamandla Maseko was close to signing on the dotted lines at Marumo Gallants. He impressed the technical team of Babina Noko during his one-week trial at the club.

However, Polokwane City, who recently sealed promotion to the DStv Premiership, now seems to be in the pole position to secure the services of Siphamandla Maseko. He’s currently in the books of the Eswatini MTN Premier League outfit Denver Sundowns.

He has been a vital cog for ‘Kappa Boys’ who finished the 2022/23 campaign in the eighth position on the Premier League log standings.

Cape Town City FC, Stellenbosch FC and SuperSport United are also understood to have shown interest in the Eswatini-international.

According to a source close to the transfer, Rise and Shine have invited the player to take part in one of their friend games as they’re continuing with the pre-season.

“He’s been invited to play in their friend game on Wednesday,” a source told FARPost.

“But he still wants to weigh options because Marumo Gallants are still in the picture.”

Following their promotion to the South African top-flight, City are getting themselves ready for what’s going to be a different season to the previous one in the lower level.

They have already completed the acquisitions of Oswin Appollis and Given Mashikinya. And as first reported by FARPost, Polokwane City have signed Luciano van Heerden after his departure from Baroka FC.

This is after they made a U-turn in keeping the former Orlando Pirates attacking midfielder Mpho Makola. Duncan Lechesa’s side also let go of the former Moroka Swallows and Black Leopards striker Joseph Mhlongo.
