Austin Dube leaves Kaizer Chiefs
In a development that does not come as a surprise, Kaizer Chiefs have announced the departure of yet another defender, Austin Dube.
The news brings an end to Dube’s two-year spell in the PSL with Chiefs, whom he joined from Richards Bay FC in July 2021.
“Austin Dube has left Kaizer Chiefs after reaching an agreement with the Club to facilitate his exit,” the club said in a statement on Thursday.
He parted ways with Chiefs with one year left on his contract. Dube struggled for game time since joining the club.
To some, the defender’s release was expected as he only featured in 18 matches for Chiefs in all competitions in two years.
It has been reported that he is returning to Richards Bay ahead of the new season.
KAIZER CHIEFS STATEMENT ON DUBE
“Austin Dube has left Kaizer Chiefs after reaching an agreement with the Club to facilitate his exit,” the club added.
“The 30-year-old defender signed for Amakhosi from Richards Bay in July 2021 on a three-year deal and made his debut as an 84th minute substitute in a 2-1 win over Baroka FC at FNB Stadium a month later.
“However, discussions between Dube’s representatives and Club management since the end of last season resulted in a decision to terminate the player’s contract a year early.”
Amakhosi’s sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr commented on Dube’s departure, explaining why they had to let him go.
“We are sad to see Austin leaving us, but we felt that it was in the best interests of the Club, as well as Austin himself, in terms of the furtherance of his career that we allow him the freedom to pursue other options and opportunities,” said Motaung Jr.
“Austin has been a model professional during his time with us and we thank him for his contribution to Kaizer Chiefs. We all wish him everything of the best.”
