AmaTuks sign Sundowns striker on loan

University of Pretoria [AmaTuks] have completed the signing of a Mamelodi Sundowns striker on a season-long loan ahead of 2023/24 Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

The Tshwane-based side had a disappointing 2022/23 campaign in the second tier after failing to gain promotion to the DStv Premiership.

AmaTuks’ ambitions of gaining automatic promotion to the SA top flight were largely affected by inconsistency and conceding soft goals.

They managed to win nine games in the league last season, drawing 13 and losing in eight occasions. As a result, AmaTuks finished eighth on the NFD log after accumulating 40 points.

Meanwhile, AmaTuks have already parted ways with no less than ten players as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Amongst players axed by the Students is Kyle Peters, Blessing Mabasa, Khomotso Masia, Masixole Nkewana, Sibongakonke Gwaba, Vuyolwethu Dinge, Nhlanhla Zwane, Tristan Nikitaridis, Lungelo Nguse, Rodney Ramagalela and Siphamandla Ncanana.

This will be Sibanyoni’s second loan spell with AmaTuks after he spent the 2021/22 season. The 27-year old talisman was key for AmaTuks when finished runners-up behind Richards Bay FC.

In the previous campaign, the attacker was sent out on loan at SuperSport United where he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter.

“Thabang Sibanyoni is back at AmaTuks, he’s going to spend the next season with the club,” a source said.

“You have to remember that this is not the first time that Sibanyoni is on loan at Tuks. The last time he played for the club he did very well. So he’s a quality striker who always have goals with him and they love him at Tuks.”
