Update on Nasreddine Nabi’s future

Former Young Africans SC coach Nasreddine Nabi looks set to start a new job in Morocco.

Nasreddine Nabi had been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa, but the deal fell through.

This was after he cut ties with Tanzania’s Young Africans after guiding them to six trophies in two seasons.

His contract with Tanzania’s Yanga had ended, marking the end of a successful 26-month spell at Jangwani Street.

Following the collapse of the Chiefs talks, Nasreddine Nabi was on the radar of several clubs, including Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, APR of Rwanda, Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia and Algeria’s CR Belouizdad.

On the other hand, Chiefs appointed Ntseki Molefi as their new head coach, replacing Arthur Zwane.

Molefi had previously occupied the head of technical and youth development at Amakhosi.

FARPost can confirm that Nabi has since settled for recently-crowned Botola Pro champions AS Far Rabat.

He is set to replace Mohammed Aziz Samadi, who guided AS FAR to the Moroccan title a fortnight ago as a caretaker mentor.

Samadi, a FAR club legend, held the fort after the army side sacked head coach Fernando Da Cruz.

Da Cruz was shown the exit door after the club’s exit from the Arab Club Champions Cup.

Meanwhile, the Black Army, as FAR is affectionately known, moved swiftly to tie down Nabi to a deal that could see him guide them in the coming season.

Barring any hiccups, the club could announce his appointment early next week.

“Nabi is a highly experienced coach with a proven track record of success. He has won trophies in DR Congo and Tanzania, and the club is confident that he will be a valuable asset to the club,” a source said.

The 58-year-old coach will lead the club to retain the coveted Botola Pro title. The Tunisian coach has a wealth of experience in African football.

He has previously coached Sudan’s Al Merreikh, DR Congo’s AC Leopards, Egypt’s Ismaily SC and Yanga. Nabi is known for his attacking style of play and is expected to bring a new dimension to the Militarians’ attack.

Once Nabi is officially unveiled, he will then begin work on preparing the team for the new season.

AS FAR are one of the most successful clubs in Morocco, with 31 Botola Pro titles to their name.

They are also the most successful club in the CAF Champions League, with three titles. The club hopes that Nabi can help them add to their trophy cabinet in the coming seasons.
