Bambanani Mbane aims to leave her mark at the World Cup
Banyana Banyana defender Bambanani Mbane has underlined her ambition to leave a mark at the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup, due to take place in Australia and New Zealand.
The prestigious tournament is set to start from July 20 until August 20.
The Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies star is among the final 23-woman squad chosen by coach Desiree Ellis to represent South Africa at the World Cup.
She starred in defence as Banyana beat Costa Rica 2-0. This was in their final World Cup warm-up friendly game in the early hours of Saturday.
This will not be Mbane’s first World Cup appearance. She previously represented the country at the 2019 World Cup held in France.
In addition, Mbane is now determined to go against all odds and leave her mark on the field of play.
Mbane was a key member of Ellis’ WAFCON winning squad in 2022. Therefore, it won’t be a surprise for the talented defender to live up to her dreams.

“My ultimate aspiration is to make a significant contribution to the team’s success in reaching the knockout stage. And in the process, leave a lasting impression,” said Mbane.
“The extraordinary performance of Morocco in the FIFA Men’s World Cup last year has been a true inspiration for me. I am wholeheartedly motivated by their achievements.
“As reigning African champions, we are filled with immense pride and unwavering determination as we prepare to represent our continent at the highest level in Australia and New Zealand.”
MBANE EXCITED TO BE PART OF BANYANA BANYANA FINAL SQUAD
The player further expressed her gratitude to have made to the final 23-woman squad.
“Being selected from a pool of talented players to represent the nation is truly a privilege,” she added.
“It fills me with humility to be entrusted with this opportunity ahead of the prestigious FIFA World Cup. I fully understand the significance of this moment and do not take it for granted.
“I eagerly anticipate the chance to proudly represent my country, as we go up against several formidable women’s teams from around the world.”
Banyana are in Group G alongside Sweden, Italy and Argentina at the FIFA World Cup.
