Sundowns upcoming star reflects on his senior debut
Mamelodi Sundowns’ upcoming star Siyanda Nyanga has reflected on his senior debut with the champions in the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.
Nyanga was afforded his first appearance by coach Rulani Mokwena in an away league encounter against Stellenbosch FC in March 2023 at Danie Craven Stadium.
He was introduced as a substitute with nine minutes left till full-time. In the 2021/22 campaign, the talented midfielder was sent out on a season-long spell to Motsepe Foundation Championship side Pretoria Callies.
The 21-year-old had a fairly good season with the Tshwane side, playing 11 matches; six starts and five substitute appearances.
Last season Nyanga was one of the academy talents that finally made a breakthrough to the first team. He joined the likes of Cassius Mailula, Siyabonga Mabena, Ntando Nkosi and Jerome Karelse.

According to Nyanga, he believes he has a lot to improve on in terms of performance. With the help of the senior team, he can become a better player.
“I was really happy even though I was a bit nervous. But I said to myself that football is football,” Nyanga told the club’s media department.
“Had to control my nerves because the coach told me I shouldn’t panic, that’s why I went in. I managed to control my nerves.
“I could say that my performance was good for a debut. But going forward I can learn more from the senior team and improve my performance a lot more.”
Ahead of the 2023/24 season, which starts in August, Nyanga will be aiming to make more appearances. That’s if Masandawana decides to keep him and not send him out again on a season-long loan.
The Tshwane giants will play many matches following the introduction of two new cup competitions; the Carling Black Label Cup and the CAF Super League.
