PSL clubs vie for signature of Zimbabwean shot-stopper
Two PSL clubs based in Limpopo are targeting the services of a gangly Zimbabwean goalkeeper, FARPost has learnt.
The lanky Zimbabwean shot-stopper parted ways with Motsepe Foundation Championship, Casric Stars, following the expiry of his contract at the end of June.
And it has been revealed that two Limpopo clubs are jostling for the services of the Warriors goalie.
WHO THE PSL LIMPOPO CLUBS ARE TARGETING
The 33-year-old, Talbert Shumba, has been one of the most consistent Zimbabwean goalkeepers. And Marumo Gallants and Black Leopards are interested.
He has been in the South African landscape since August 2021 when he joined Free State Stars.
The gangly Zimbabwean goalkeeper, who is a soldier by profession moved to the Motsepe Foundation Championship from Zambia’s Nkana FC.
That was after a swift rise to stardom from Zimbabwe’s lower tier division club Chapungu to the national team.
Shumba was part of the players that went to join the Casrics Stars squad when they bought the Free State Stars franchise.
WHAT TALBERT SHUMBA IS HOPING FOR
Although he did not enjoy much game time at Casric Stars, the gangly Zimbabwean goalkeeper is wanted by Limpopo football clubs.
“Several clubs including Marumo Gallants have made inquiries but so far, there is nothing conclusive at the moment. Of course, there is one club that appears more serious,” Shumba told FARPost.
Gallants will hope to replace another Zimbabwean goalkeeper, Washington Arubi who left them after relegation.
Arubi was a top performer in Marumo Gallants colours as they enjoyed a fairytale run in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The only blight in their 2022/23 term would have been their relegation from the topflight on the last day of the season.
So the Zimbabwe international went on to join Sekhukhune United where he is likely to be the first choice.
Babina Noko, finalists in the 2023 Nedbank Cup, will be playing in the CAF Confederation Cup in the 2023/24 season.
And Shumba is easily a perfect replacement for his compatriot at Gallants considering his experience with the Warriors.
He was part of the team that represented Zimbabwe at the last Africa Cup of Nations finals.
It remains to be seen which of the two Limpopo football clubs that the gangly Zimbabwean goalkeeper will choose.
