Cassius Mailula set to join a North American club
Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that winger Cassius Mailula is on the verge of joining a North American club.
The Limpopo-born footballer has been instrumental for Masandawana in the last campaign and scoring important goals for the Tshwane giants.
However, the Brazilians did not mention the name of the North American side when they confirmed the news on Monday night.
But, according to the rumours making rounds, the star player has been linked with a move to one of the Major League Soccer [MLS] side.
Last season, he scored nine goals for Bafana Ba Style in the DStv Premiership in 17 league matches.
Overall, he banged 15 goals across all competitions for Sundowns in the last term which he played 31 games.
His stellar displays in the junior ranks saw him promoted to the senior team in August 2022.
The club stated that it supports Mailula’s move to the North American club.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS OFFICIAL STATEMENT
“Mamelodi Sundowns has been in discussions with a North American football club that expressed interest in acquiring the services of Cassius Mailula,” read the club’s statement.
“Sundowns is proud of Cassius Mailula who joined the Mamelodi Sundowns Academy as a 13-year-old and was developed and nurtured by the Sundowns coaches.
“Mamelodi Sundowns will make further announcements concerning Cassius Mailula in due course.”
The Rulani Mokwena-coached side will kick off the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season against Sekhukhune United away from home. This is according to the PSL leaked draft fixtures.
Sundowns will be hoping to defend their title in style and win the league for the seventh successive season.
Given Mailula’s outstanding performances last campaign, it is safe to say that the 22-year-old footballer isn’t just a star player but he is a cracking package, workhorse, and ever-reliable finisher.
